Shona : The Gem Of Whitehaven
I called in at Whitehaven, July 2017, for 24 hours. To my delight, this utterly charming Canoe Yawl was in the marina there, and I did think she looked very much in the style of an Albert Strange designed craft. She was up for sale and, indeed, described as being built in 1914 to the lines of an Albert Strange design. She's was under offer, October 2017, but I believe the sale fell through. In trying to find out more about her, Albert Strange enthusiast Dick Wynn commented that he thought she may actually have been designed by G McLean Gibson; a man who knew and was influenced by Strange, as mentioned on page 32 of John Leather's book on Albert Strange.
Incidentally, she lost her original name, Outis, in 1921.
