Louisa : Steel Hulled Buchanan, Netherlands Built
I found Louisa unexpectedly on the internet, a previously 'unknown' boat. Mysteriously, she has a Lloyd's Registration number but it does not match that of any known Buchanan boat, nor does she appear in the Lloyd's Registers, not credited to Alan Buchanan at any rate. And yet she looks very much like an Alan Buchanan yacht of 1962 vintage, albeit with a steel hull rather than one of wood. It was not unusual for boat builders in the Netherlands to use steel of which they had plenty at a good price in the 1950s and 1960s - rather than wood which was mostly imported and relatively expensive. Even so, she has a stylish teak deck and upper structure which was renewed in 2001. Louisa is rumoured to be a much travelled boat. I'd love to know more about her.
