Putting The Record Straight
Prior to publishing his memoirs, John Walden contacted the HBA to ask for our help in tracking down “a Harrison Butler designed boat called Greengage”. This was not a boat known to the Association. It was only when John's memoirs were published, March 2015, along with the name Noel Knee that I realised that the Greengage being referred to was a Berthon Gauntlet designed by the Berthon Boat Co Ltd, and built by them in 1935. As a Google search throws up what we now know is incorrect information, incorrectly stating Harrison Butler is the designer of Greengage, this page is here to put the record straight.
Greengage is currently located in north-east Scotland. A nephew of Noel Knee, Marcus Holbrow, has very kindly sent in a photograph of her, taken in 1964 on the slip at Ken Lathams boat yard in Poole. She's a fine looking boat.
