| | Capella of Burnham : Successful 1960's Racer For Sale
Capella of Burnham is an Alan Buchanan Vashti Class sloop built to the top 100A1 Lloyd's standard by Suttons in 1960 with all the best materials; teak hull, cabin and deck, stainless steel and bronze fittings, and a lead keel. She was built as a sister ship to Vashti and is Buchanan's most successful design for the RORC III class. Voted Yachting Monthly's boat of the year in 1960, and winner of the town cup in Burnham week 1960. She's currently for sale (May 2021) with The Classic Yacht Brokerage for £45,500 having been placed there by her owner of the last 26 years, Paul Harteveld. He writes, “Sails like a dream, whether racing, cruising or fast passage making. She is in very good condition, with new decks, coach roof, cockpit, and a recent engine. Newly painted and varnished”.
Her first owner, WH Hawkins, was the boss of H&M Engineering which made most of the metal fittings for several of the Buchanan boats built by Bill Sutton.
