OGA Boat Register Editor
I am pleased to inform you that almost 1,000 selected records from the OGA online Boat Register were opened for public browsing on 4 April, 2016 as was reported to the AGM in January 2016, and in the March issue of Gaffers Log.
An improved Search was implemented across the whole OGA website along with improvements to the search in the Boat Register. There is no need to log on to view the published boats. Website visitors may browse the records via thumbnail images or search on a range of criteria including Designer and Builder. Since going live, a variety of featured boats have been posted via the OGA Facebook pages to begin promoting the Boat Register. This has resulted in an increase of traffic to the website, primarily visiting the online Boat Register pages. Of the featured boats, Boadicea, Cine Mara, Nellie and Fanny of Cowes have attracted the most page views to date.
There are over 2,400 records in the online Boat Register which remain unpublished, due to there being insufficient or unverified data in the record. If your boat is not visible, let us know, it may be amongst these unpublished records. Members may request that their boat record is not made public by sending an email to me, Pat Dawson. The data available in each published record varies considerably, and we hope that members and others will be encouraged to contribute information and images to develop the online Boat Register further. There is a great deal of work to be done in digitising images held in various OGA Area archives and updating records from information in the paper records held by Pat Dawson, OGA Boat Register Editor and in the printed Gaffers Log archives. Some of this work has been started, and may be found in the appropriate boat's record. We're keen to find more volunteers to help us to develop the Register now it's live for more people to see. Do take a look at the Boat Register, if you haven't already done so, and let us know what you think. Members may update their own boat details.
